Message from Mayor Wayne Messam

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Before I provide you with updates regarding our great city, I want to say a few words about the resilience of our residents during this past year. It was not an easy path for any of us as we tried to understand what was taking place, how to protect ourselves and our families, how to move forward and how city administration could provide for our residents.

Together we are making our way and arrived where we are today… thank you for your patience and understanding. We are still making it through together and better days are truly ahead.

Let us now move on to updates. In response to concerns over a series of accidents along the 6700 block of Miramar Parkway, I will begin with changes being made. Several accidents have taken place from speeding causing property damage sustained by the residents who live along that curve. I called a town hall meeting last month to address the issues and invited Broward County administration to join me in telling residents what solutions would be made to protect those who live in that Historic Miramar area. Traffic engineering controls have begun, and you will see additional precautions being taken including our police department monitoring the area for speeders. Since these mitigating controls have been in place, we are already seeing a reduction in accidents.

Staying on the historic side of town, I also held a town meeting to share more details on the proposed Innovation & Technology Village. This exciting concept conceived by my office along with the City Manager, proposed dynamic additions that will offer workforce housing and technology to our great city. For a complete understanding of the Innovation and Technology Village, please go to MiramarFl.gov/OneMiramar.

I am happy to announce the return of our July 4th celebration, complete with fireworks and a concert featuring Taylor Dayne, (insert Latin Group here) and Grammy Awardee Morgan Heritage. To register, log on to Miramar4thofJuly.eventbrite.com. The fun starts at 6 pm at the Miramar Amphitheater located at 16801 Miramar Parkway.

One more activity I want to invite you to participate in is my weekly Free Yoga, A Time to Heal sessions. Conducted by Rocki Roland of Yogababe Studios, I sponsored the first 10 sessions. The classes proved so popular, I added another 10 sessions and have now extended to the end of August courtesy of Memorial Health Systems. Sessions are Saturdays, 10am to 11am at Town Center. See you there, Namaste.
