More than 200 teachers and educators from 89 schools, 15 counties, and 10 organizations across Florida convened in Miami on July 15th and 16th for the 7th annual Everglades Teacher Symposium. The event marked the 10th anniversary of the Everglades Literacy Program, launched by The Everglades Foundation to educate and empower the next generation to restore and protect America’s Everglades.
Each year, the free, two-day symposium allows teachers to participate in professional development sessions, share best practices, channel their creativity, and network with other educators.

Working closely with Zoo Miami Associate Veterinarian, Dr. Rodney Schnellbacher and the Animal Health team, Board Certified veterinary surgeons, Dr. Natalia Andrade and Dr. Robin Holtsinger from Miami Veterinary Specialists, performed the surgery that included the attachment of two metal plates to repair and stabilize the fracture.  The surgery was successful, and Winston has since been recovering in a secluded area with a full leg cast.
Yesterday, Winston was immobilized, and the cast removed so that the Animal Health team could closely evaluate the surgical site and ensure that healing was progressing normally.
