Miami-Dade Parks receives Governor’s Sterling Award

The Sterling Council has announced that Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department is a recipient of the Governor’s Sterling Award for 2023, the highest recognition an organization in Florida, public or private, can receive for performance excellence. The Parks Department now is a two-time recipient of the Governor’s Sterling Award, having previously won in 2009. The University of Miami’s Miller School of Medicine recently announced the appointment of neurosurgeon Ashish H. Shah, M.D. to the newly created position of Director of Clinical Trials and Translational Research in the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Brain Tumor Initiative (BTI). According to Ricardo J. An enthusiastic crowd of parents, children, teachers, community leaders and civil rights organizations came together on June 6 at the Sanctuary for Banned Books at Coral Gables Congregational Church to support recently challenged books in Florida. The book giveaway drew a standing room only crowd of more than 500 people.
