CRIME PREVENTION OFFICER OF THE YEAR IS FROM NORTH MIAIMI BEACH

Scott Dennis of the North Miami Beach Police Department is pleased to announce that the Southeast Florida Crime Prevention Association (SFCPA) Board of Directors selected North Miami Beach Police Crime Prevention Officer John Philome, as the 2014 SFCPA Crime Prevention Practitioner of the Year.

The award was presented at the 2014 Annual Chiefs’ Appreciation luncheon at Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood, Florida on Wednesday October 8, 2014.

Southeast Florida Crime Prevention Association chose John Philome for his active approach to prevent crime by fully engaging public participation. John utilized a variety of strategies to influence and educate the community over his career and over the past year particularly. John heads the Police Explorer Program and coordinates various crime20141008_155658 prevention programs.

Some of the free programs include: the residential crime watch program, the trespass after warning program, the police volunteers initiative, the citizens patrol program, the parking enforcement specialists program, FL Attorney General’s Office Seniors vs. Crime program, P.A.C.T. program, bank robbery reference point program, women’s self-defense classes, and he conducted over 100 residential and commercial security assessments last year.

John was first a volunteer at the North Miami Beach Police Department for 6 years and now has been a stellar Crime Prevention Officer for 10 years. John has also won the Civilian of the Year Award three times. This is the first time John received this prestigious award and says, the award is just a reflection of how the police department and the City of North Miami Beach as a whole, makes crime prevention a priority in order to protect lives and property every day.
