WHAT: Today, the Orange Bowl Committee surprised Coach Todd Fitz-Gerald, Head Baseball Coach at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, as part of the College Football Playoff Foundation’s Extra Yard for Teachers program.
The Extra Yard for Teachers program is a nationwide, back-to-school celebration dedicated to honoring and recognizing great teachers and letting them know they are valued and respected.
Coach Fitz-Gerald is one of the few teachers who has remained at MSD since the 2018 tragedy. Deeply loved by the school community, he has used the baseball program to bring people together and foster healing over the past 14 years.
Under his leadership, the Eagles have won six national titles and seven FHSAA state championships, including a Florida-record five consecutive state titles (2021–2025) and a perfect 29–0 season in 2023 that was crowned Perfect Game national champion.
A multiple-time National Coach of the Year, the Orange Bowl surprised Fitz-Gerald with a $1,000 award in recognition of his leadership, impact, and commitment to excellence on and off the field.
