On Saturday, September 29, 2012, from 6:00 to 9:00 PM, the resonating sounds throughout the City of Opa-locka could be described as a “blast,” a “bang,” or a “blow-up,” but in actuality, it was an “Explosion!” The 2nd Annual GOSPEL EXPLOSION, ignited by host Commissioner Rose Tydus, set-off by the Mayor and
Commission in partnership with the Parks and Recreation Department, and detonated by the multi-cultured, multi-generational, multi-talented cast of renown recording artists “Sensere,” the DNA Music Boyz, Bobby Rosario and the ASAPH Orchestra, who “lit-up” Sherbondy Park, 380 Bahman Avenue and the community with soul-stirring Gospel music, gifted through a combination of tempos, rhythms, styles, unique qualities and messages.
The Gospel Explosion and Performing Arts Ministry Competition, struck a positive note, in “the great City,” among the young, the elderly, the individual, the families, the church congregations and the mere spectators passing-by, but taking time to dap, clap, head-bop, worship or sing along to the sweet noise of praise that transcended the airwaves, and into surrounding neighborhoods, while penetrating the battlegrounds of spiritual warfare.
Commissioner Rose Tydus celebrated yet another year, of success and accomplishment by achieving her goals to attract families, bridge musical gaps, create dialogue and appreciation for new and oldschool gospel music. Commissioner Tydus also showcased the gift of the City’s ever growing Latino Community by reachingout for their contribution to the concert through performers Bobby Rosario and the ASAPH Orchestra, who took to the stage immediately following the opening act of laughter and humor provided by Christian comedian – Felicia “FeFe” Moore.
Many attendees donated a canned good or non-perishable food to benefit the Opalocka MAKE A WISH VETERANS, INC, for which the donors were given tickets to participate in four $25.00 gift card raffles. The MAKE A WISH VETERANS, INC also provided a concession stand with Barbeque chicken, ribs, hamburgers, hot dogs, sausage and more, as a fundraiser to benefit the organization, which was founded in 2007 by Veteran Charles Buford, who was awarded a commendation at the Gospel Explosion by Commissioner Rose Tydus.
No matter what words were used to define The 2nd Annual GOSPEL EXPLOSION, it proved to be filled with more than enough dynamite performances to blowaway the expectations of the crowd, for yet another year!
