      Grand Opening
      Grand Opening
Government and business leaders mixed and mingled with national and local celebrities on a “green carpet” sprawled in front of Earth Friendly Products’ state-of-the-art new Southeast Division headquarters in Opa-Locka, Florida. They flew in from as far away as South America, South Africa, California, Illinois, Washington state, and New Jersey to celebrate the grand opening of this ultra green manufacturing facility that sets a high standard for environmental sustainability.

The company, which makes ECOS, the world’s top-selling green laundry detergent and 150 other cleaning products by using only plant-based, all-natural ingredients, received accolades and well-wishes from Jenna Elfman, star of TV’s “Dharma & Greg;” U.S. Congressman Gus Bilirakis; Gigi Lee Chang, CEO for Healthy Child Healthy World; Honorable Jean Monestime, Miami-Dade District 2 County Commissioner and the Honorable Myra Taylor, Mayor of Opa-Locka.
Diana Rodriguez, Special Assistant to the Mayor of Miami, presented a certificate of congratulations from Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez to Dr. Van Vlahakis, CEO and Owner, John Vlahakis, President, and Kelly Vlahakis-Hanks, Executive Vice President of Earth Friendly Products.

The company demonstrated its commitment to the local community by presenting a check to the Miami Children’s Hospital Foundation. “Miami Children’s Hospital delivers excellent medical care to every child who needs their help without regard for a family’s ability to pay,” said Ms. Vlahakis-Hanks. “Our contribution is a token of the gratitude, respect and deep admiration we have for one of America’s finest pediatric medical facilities and the hard work and dedication of their Foundation that makes the full commitment to excellence possible.”

Designed by a LEED-certified architect, the new facility features solar panels that deliver clean, renewable power; solar tubes; daylight harvesting; water and energy efficient appliances, and occupancy sensors among many others that help make it an environmental hallmark for South Florida.

Earth Friendly Products operates five regional plants strategically located around the country to keep their carbon footprint low, fostering a culture of local community investment and support. All five plants are equipped with many of the very latest advancements in environmental technology. “We are part of the American manufacturing renaissance,” declared John Vlahakis, Earth Friendly Products’ President, who further noted that “a country that can produce it’s own goods is a country that can sustain itself and it’s citizens.”

A strong commitment to excellence in product research and development is a vital part of the heritage of Earth Friendly Products. “It’s important for people to realize that the inspiration behind the creation of our company was our own children and grandchildren,” said Dr. Van Vlahakis. “We wanted to provide a legacy of environmental responsibility and a commitment to the development of products that would pose no harm to people or to animals. For decades, we have strived to keep that promise to future generations and we will continue to keep our pledge as we provide products that people can trust and depend on.”
