OLPD Uncovered Home Growing Operation Discovered over $500,000.00 in Marijuana

On September 18, 2012 the Opa-locka Police Department Criminal Investigations Division, under the command of Major Sharon Gallimore, was investigating information developed through the course of a narcotics investigation of a possible Marijuana growing operation in the City of Opa-locka.

The investigation led detectives to a single family residence located at 2071 Wilmington Street where upon arrival Opalocka Police Detectives and Federal Agents noticed that the air conditioning unit to the residence was on, but the FPL meter was not moving. Further, the detectives and federal agents noticed a very strong odor of what they recognized to be Marijuana emanating from the residence. Based on these facts, Opa-locka Police Department detectives obtained a Search Warrant for the residence.

Upon executing the Search Warrant, detectives and federal agents discovered a Marijuana growing operation inside the residence. A total of 23 Marijuana plants were recovered with a street value of over $500,000.00. The investigation is active and on going and a suspect has been linked to the house and the illegal growing operation.
