The Deering Estate Foundation is preparing to host its fourth annual “Mistletoe & Martinis,” a signature holiday event on Friday, Dec. 10, from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m., at the Deering Estate.

This sophisticated soirée is the estate’s signature holiday event. For one night only, guests are invited to stroll the light-strung grounds and celebrate the season with live entertainment, designer-led holiday décor plus tasty food and drinks from some of Miami’s best restaurants, catering teams and drink sponsors.

“This is one of our favorite events of the year, and we couldn’t be more excited to welcome our South Florida neighbors and friends back to the beloved estate as we get in the yuletide spirit,” said Nina Zanella, executive director of The Deering Estate Foundation.

“After a global pandemic forced us all to celebrate the holidays apart last year, we are thrilled to be able to once again gather together at the beautiful Deering Estate to toast to the holiday season in a way that is safe, fun and festive for all.”
Co-chaired by Deering Estate Board members Jo Ann Szaro and Beth Person, who also are members of the 100 Ladies of Deering, this evening of merriment is all about community.

All night long, guests will be able to feast on delicious bites from some of Miami’s best restaurants and caterers, including Michelin-starred Kosushi Miami, Seawell Fish N’ Oyster,

The Gramercy, Delicious Catering, Catering by Les, Sports Grill and Lure Fishbar and Bar Collins, both from the award-winning dining program at the Loews Miami Beach Hotel. Beer and wine will be provided and the title event drink, martinis, will be shaken and stirred by teams from ZYR Vodka, Whitley Neill Gin and Martini Rossi.

As they eat and drink, attendees can spend the evening mingling with family and friends, listening to live music from the FIU School of Music students performing classical instrumental plus jazz holiday classics and favorites, an opera singer, and harpist, all while admiring the beautiful Christmas lights and exploring the lavishly decorated Stone House and Richmond Cottage.

The annual silent auction that typically accompanies the event will be digital this year, via Bidding Owl and will open on Dec. 6, allowing both attendees and non-attendees to participate, with the winners announced at the close of Mistletoe & Martinis.

The Deering Estate’s annual Historic Holiday Décor is led by award-winning designer Alfredo Brito, Deering Estate’s Designer in Residence, and assisted by some of South Florida’s top interior designers and home design brands. Based in Miami, Brito’s talents have been recognized by various publications, including Architectural Digest, Casa & Estilo and Florida Design.

This year’s décor theme is “The Gilded Age,” the period of American history from the 1870s through the early 1900s, often attributed to Mark Twain, when many of Charles Deering’s contemporaries built their palatial American homes in South Florida. Brito will recreate that period in all its Christmas glory by decorating the 1922-built, Mediterranean-revival Stone House and 1896 pioneer-era Richmond Cottage with glittering décor that transports visitors to its glamour and elegance.

With the help of the 100 Ladies of Deering, the houses will be thoughtfully decorated with a 15-foot Christmas tree, gold accents and period pieces illustrating the Old and New World influences of the Gilded Age.

As guests wander around the house, they will revel in décor reminiscent of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s classic holiday ballet The Nutcracker, with the library adorned in Russian Imperial-style gold and deep blue tones, motifs and ornaments inspired by The Nutcracker’s masculine characters.

Tickets for Mistletoe & Martinis are $100 for Deering Estate members and $125 for non-members. Space is limited and tickets must be purchased in advance, either online or by calling 305-235-1668, ext. 263. All proceeds from this event will benefit The Deering Estate Foundation’s community, conservation and cultural programming.

Deering Estate’s Historic Holiday Décor is on display daily through Jan. 6, 2022, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Historic Holiday Décor is free with general admission, which is priced at $15 for non-member adults and $7 for non-member children (ages 4-14). General admission is free for Deering Estate Foundation members and children under 4 years old.

Deering Estate is located at 16701 SW 72 Ave. in Palmetto Bay. While Mistletoe & Martinis is open to families of all ages, it is encouraged for guests 21 and older.
