Event helps over 300 homeless pets find their perfect match

The weather was perfect for matchmaking and a total of 307 pets found their perfect human match during the 2016 Mega-Match-A-Thon event that kicked off its 24-hour run at Tropical Park beginning on Friday, Oct. 21, at 11:59 p.m., and continuing through Saturday, Oct. 22.

Miami-Dade Animal Services (Animal Services) along with the Humane Society of Greater Miami and The Cat Network Inc. played matchmaker for the hundreds of dogs, puppies, cats and kittens looking for forever homes and families during the lifesaving annual petstravanganza.

Adoption started at a low $30 and included spay or neuter, vaccines, deworming, license and microchip.

“This year’s theme focused on the perfect pet match,” said Alex Muñoz, director of Animal Services. “We wanted to encourage adopters to look for and feel that special connection when choosing a companion animal, because that is the precursor to the love created in a human-animal bond.”

The festive atmosphere included live entertainment featuring local talent such as the adorable dancers from the Focal Point Dance studio, father and son rappers Suspens and Suspens Jr., and singer-dancer Jessi-O. Local DJ Drac had people and some furry friends joining in group dancing like the Cha Cha Slide and the Macarena. A farmer’s market and food.
