The community of Palmetto Bay ushered in the second day of the holiday of Chanukah with the lighting of an innovative ice sculptured menorah on December 9. As the melting water began to cascade down the large candelabra, the Honorable Mayor Shelley Stanczyk, Vice Mayor John Dubois and Council members Patrik Fiore, Joan Lindsay had the honor of lighting the candles of the holiday. The street was crowded with local celebrants, all of whom brought greetings and insight into the holiday celebration.
Rabbi Zalman and Chani Gansburg of Chabad of Palmetto Bay welcomed the crowds at the parking lot at Old Cutler Road and SW 168th. Many thanks to Mr. Luis Fraiser and Sarbucks for, once again, making this excellent location available. The lively event was accompanied by joyous holiday music to which participants danced and sang along. Latkes (fried potato pancakes) and donuts, traditional Chanukah foods, were served. Exciting raffles, children’s activities, and light up Menorah necklaces made the night fun for the whole family.
