Miami short Film Festival to present ‘Focus On: Passport to the World!’

The Miami short Film Festival (MIAMIsFF), in partnership with Deering Estate, will present “Focus On: Passport to the World!” films on Sunday, Sept. 25. Enjoy a welcome cocktail and the screening of 11 short films. This event will take place indoors at the Deering Estate Theater.

The screening will begin at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m. Cocktail hour with cash bar and music from 6 to 7 p.m.

The following short films will be presented:
Fjord
Directed by Skule Eriksen – Documentary – 24 min., Norway
Fjord is a personal interpretation of the landscape in Naeroyfjord in Western Norway, included in UNESCO’s World Heritage list of 2005. The film is poetic and rhythmic, following the shifting light and the turn of the seasons in this unique and dramatic landscape.

Afghan ’72
Directed by Pierre Forcioli-Conti – Documentary – 4 min., USA
After finding 16mm reels in the attic of his parents’ house, a man discovers an improbable side of his father’s personality.

Caracas En Moto
Directed by Daniel Ruiz Hueck – Documentary – 10 min., Venezuela
In this amusing documentary, traffic in Caracas, Venezuela is petrifying, and according to experts around the globe (and the weary, fed-up citizens of Caracas), a cause of extreme fatal stress.

Ephemeral City
Directed by Philip Davis – Documentary – 18 min., USA
The streets of New York City come alive in this beautiful, fascinating feat of sounds and visuals.

Roanoke to Tel Aviv
Directed by Phil Wall – Documentary – 7 min., USA
Two Americans from the same hometown find themselves in the Israeli professional basketball league.

Escher’s Taxi
Directed by Aleksei Abib and Flavio Botelho – Narrative – 15:52 min., Brazil
In the old center of Sao Paulo, Carlos takes a taxi to Buenos Aires. As he crosses Escher’s space-time, he accesses a deeper city within himself. Carlos now travels through his emotions, his unconscious, and goes far beyond anything he could imagine.

3 Words for Paris
Directed by Cokau – New Media – 3:52 min., France
One city, two artists, three words, millions of possibilities. Dozens of people, from different horizons, of different social classes, ages and sex have answered this question: “What makes Paris so special in 3 words?”

Salvation

Salvation was a challenge of self-expression to portray emotions.

Getaway to Kaohsiung
Directed by Namewee Studio Production – Music Video – 4:44 min., Taiwan
This music video aims to promote the tourism of Kaohsiung, Taiwan. The song is about getting away from hassled life and traveling in Kaohsiung (southern city in Taiwan). The singer, Namewee, was in his “Moving Room” and traveled around Kaohsiung city. He meets different native citizens including aboriginals, tastes various local delicacies, and visits popular landmarks.

Living with Snow Leopards: Sainaa’s Story
Directed by J. Joe Pontecorvo & Gayle Podrabsky – Documentary – 11 min., USA
Sainaa Sainbileg and her husband herd goats for their livelihood in a remote Yamaat Valley in Mongolia. They share their mountain home with killer predators, snow leopards and wolves. Sainaa has found a way to save the snow leopard from certain death if the cat kills their livestock.

The Miami short Film Festival is dedicated to promoting the short film genre, showcasing films from 1-25 minutes long. The festival is international in scope, bringing exposure to the world’s best independent up-and-coming filmmakers. MIAMIsFF’s goal year after year is focused on motivating directors, screenwriters, actors, and producers to make films and share them with fellow film makers and industry professionals. The goal is to bring exposure to independent up-and-coming filmmakers.

The Deering Estate is located at 16701 SW 72 Ave. in Palmetto Bay.
