Palmetto General Hospital Earns “A” for Patient Safety in Fall 2016 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade

0-web-app-4000x3000_pgh-aerialBy achieving an “A” Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, Palmetto General Hospital receives recognition as one of the safest hospitals in the United States. The Leapfrog Group, a national patient safety watchdog, assigns “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” and “F” letter grades to hospitals nationwide and provides the most complete picture of patient safety in the U.S.

“At Palmetto General Hospital, we continuously strive to maintain the highest standards for patient safety, and it’s gratifying to be recognized for those efforts,” said Ana Mederos, hospital CEO. “I would like to thank all of our co-workers and physicians for their commitment to providing a safe environment and compassionate care to all of our patients.”

Developed under the guidance of an expert panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 30 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to more than 2,600 U.S. hospitals twice per year. The ratings are calculated by top patient safety experts and are fully transparent and free to the public.

“Protecting patients from harm is the most important charge for any hospital,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “We recognize and appreciate “A” hospitals’ vigilance and continued dedication to keeping their patients safe.”
