Al Garcia, a Miami native and the longtime vice president of Operations at Homestead-Miami Speedway, received the 2015 Terry Jackson Memorial Award from the Southern Automotive Media Association (SAMA). Garcia was honored at SAMA’s luncheon which took place at the Miami Beach Convention Center during the recent Miami Auto Show.
“SAMA could not have picked a better person to receive this award,” said Matthew Becherer, Homestead-Miami Speedway president. “Al is an original member of the Homestead-Miami Speedway staff and came up through the ranks, working under our founder, Ralph Sanchez, starting back in the days of the Miami Grand Prix in 1983. Al has a true passion, not only for our track, but for auto racing in general. He is an outstanding ambassador for the sport here in South Florida.”
The award is named after Terry Jackson, a former Miami Herald writer/editor and SAMA member who passed away from cancer in 2009. He was a racing enthusiast.
