Palmetto Bay’s historic bayside park, Thalatta Estate, which has been closed for renovation since May, reopens with a flourish on Sunday, Sept. 15, with a Grand Re-Opening ceremony and a Bridal Expo. Mary S. Fernandez, the village’s special events supervisor, explained the significance of the re-opening in an interview on Aug. 7.
“This event strikes a perfect balance by showcasing the continued public access to the bay and colorful history of this venue for our residents, while providing an exclusive look at Palmetto Bay’s premier wedding location,” Fernandez said. “It will be a great opportunity for longtime residents to revisit all the amenities and historic features that this bayfront park has to offer, while inviting a whole new audience to come see where their wedding dreams begin.”
Fernandez said that the renovations conducted over the past several months were focused on preserving many of the original architectural features of the estate, such as the exquisite fireplace mantel and Cuban tile work, as well as adding a grand sweeping staircase from the new second-story veranda that leads to the bayfront eventfunction area and sprawling lawn.
“We are also proud to include the creation of a ‘Museum Room’ in which visitors can learn more about the estate’s rich history, and a ‘learning space’ where educational resources and public exhibits will be housed,” Fernandez said. “Those exciting new features fulfill the terms of grant funding that originally supported the purchase of the estate, and reflects our commitment to conduct regional educational, cultural and environmental programs on-site.”
Helping with the event planning process is special events coordinator Vanessa Binns, the newest member of the Palmetto Bay village team. Binns joined the special events staff in late July. Her office is co-located at Thalatta Estate, along with Mary Fernandez. Checking out the renovation work prior to the re-opening, Binns will assist with the Fall/Winter wedding and events season that begins each year in September.
“Our grand re-opening comes at a perfect time, with the wedding season in South Florida starting in the fall,” said Fernandez.
Just like a wedding, RSVPs are necessary for the re-opening and Bridal Expo. Those interested in attending are requested to send an email to Info@ThalattaEstate.com . Wedding industry vendors interested in participating with an exhibit booth should visit www.thalattaestate.com for details.
