The Deering Estate supports emerging and mid-career artists who work in a multitude of disciplines and media. The prestigious and competitive Artist-in-Residence (AIR) Program acts as an incubator for creative ideas, unique experiences, and collaborative opportunities that engage the public.

Deering Estate receives Marlon Johnson in his second consecutive year as Deering Estate McCormick Art Fellow of the Deering Estate’s AIR Program. The fellowship is sponsored in part by the Deering Estate Foundation and the Charles Deering McCormick Friends of Art Fund.

Johnson has been invited as previous Artist-in-Residence and will continue to engage with the Deering Estate through a series of planned lectures with guest speakers and artists, take-over tours and events in and out of his studio that will enhance and compliment the Deering Estate’s cultural programming.

The Deering Estate has announced the recipients of this year’s residency opportunities.

Studio Residencies are housed in the Artist Village Buildings, Carriage House and Power House, and were awarded to painter Andres Cabrera-Garcia and multi-disciplinary visual artists Gretchen Scharnagl and joint residency for Lilian Garcia-Roig and Alex Zastera.

Project Residencies consist of specific interactions with the estate and its resources and were awarded to performing artists Michelle Grant Murray and Susana Behar; writer Dr. Keshia Abraham; sound artist Gustavo Matamoros, and visual artists Dona Altemus, Tony Fernandez, Anna Goraczko, Jeanne Jaffe, Pangea Kali-Virga, Enma Saiz, Barron Sherer, Laurencia Strauss and Meg Wallace.
