The Everglades Foundation is pleased to announce that Erik Stabenau, Ph.D., has joined its Science team as Senior Restoration Scientist. In this role, Dr. Stabenau will evaluate and shape restoration planning efforts, supervise and mentor core technical members of the Science team, and provide support across the Foundation’s programmatic areas, including Policy and Communications.
“We’re thrilled to have Erik join The Everglades Foundation’s Science team. He brings immense experience and technical capacity from his previous positions at Everglades National Park and is highly respected as a scientist and manager in both agency and academic circles,” said Steve Davis, Chief Science Officer at The Everglades Foundation.
Dr. Stabenau comes to the Foundation after a 20-year career with the National Park Service. Earlier, as an Oceanographer and Coastal Ocean Modeler, he developed solutions to environmental challenges related to limited freshwater availability. He began his career in 2005 as a Supervisory Hydrologist at Everglades National Park, where he managed a team responsible for maintaining the region’s hydrologic monitoring network and databases.
Throughout his career, Dr. Stabenau also assumed key administrative assignments, including serving as Supervisory Program Specialist at Biscayne National Park—assisting the superintendent with personnel management and employee relations—and as Senior Advisor and Legislative Liaison for the National Park Service in Washington, D.C.
Dr. Stabenau was named a National Research Council Postdoctoral Associate by the National Academies of Sciences. He earned his Ph.D. in Marine and Atmospheric Chemistry from the University of Miami’s Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric, and Earth Sciences, and holds a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Wayne State University.
