HomeStrong USA and Bank of America presented Spc. Schuyler and his family with keys to a 1,349-square-foot, three-bedroom home in the Keys Gate Community in Homestead. The home was donated by the Bank of America as part of its commitment to donate 1,000 properties to military veteran- support nonprofit groups.

HomeStrong identified Schuyler to receive the home as part of its HomeStrong Heroes program and provided the mortgage- free home. The home is an answer to prayer for Spc. Shuyler and his family, who have experienced tremendous health and financial struggles following his return home.

A father of two boys, Spc. Schuyler has dedicated himself to the service of others. Instrumental in the early years of the Wounded Warrior Project, he served at Walter Reed Army Medical Center as a combat medic with a M6 (Licensed Practical Nurse) identifier. There, he provided total care to wounded heroes returning from Iraq and Afghanistan.

Displaying strength and resolve during his service, Spc. Schuyler would face an even greater challenge upon his own return home when, shortly after being honorably discharged, he received news that his 3- year-old son Gabriel had developed large tumors throughout his brain.

Today, Spc. Schuyler’s son is on an athome regimen, where the family hopes for him to reach the age of 4. The costs of treatment have caused financial strains on the Schuyler family, but now the Schuylers will have a place to call their own and provide a stable home for their children.

As part of Bank of America’s efforts to help revitalize communities and support the housing needs of those who have served and sacrificed for our nation and communities, the company has pledged to make up to 1,000 homes available nationwide through property donations to military veteran-support charities and other non-profit, community-based organizations. This donation is made possible through a partnership with HomeStrong USA, which works with financial institutions such as Bank of America.
