The Children’s Voice Chorus, a Palmetto Bay based organization dedicated to “empower diverse young people in Miami with artistic and life skills through experiences in vocal music,” presented Winter Song, a choral holiday celebration, at Vizcaya in the evening of Dec. 13.

There were two identical immersive performances in the main house at 6:30 and 7:40 p.m. plus a holiday sing-along in the gardens at 8:15 p.m.
Setting the performance apart was its unique co-creation by student leaders who are members of the Children’s Voice Chorus and their founder and artistic director, Jamie Sutta.

The carefully curated program encompassed music from around the world, featuring a harmonious blend of languages.

“We performed at the Vizcaya Late Holiday Evening event,” Sutta said. “More than 80 students performed a program of music that celebrated unity, tradition and cold places. We sang music in five languages including Spanish, Creole and Chinese. We ended the evening with a 300-person caroling sing-along outdoors.”

The event was described as a mesmerizing celebration of the winter holidays with Vizcaya Museum and Gardens collaborating with the Children’s Voice Chorus in the special holiday event.

The Children’s Voice youth chorus has performed at the Super Bowl and worked with artists like Enrique Iglesias and Julian Marley.

The Children’s Voice Chorus unites diverse students from across Miami-Dade County through the universal language of music, “teaching them not just to sing, but also to express and appreciate the difference and value in our individual voices. Now more important than ever, our students learn to cooperate and achieve more together than they can apart, planting seeds for lasting social change.”

Throughout the season, the choristers learn and enhance their musicianship as well as channeling their gifts and creativity in “positive, productive ways that serve the community.” Working for more than a decade, the Children’s Voice Chorus has tripled in size and has emerged as a prominent symbol of cultural importance in Miami.

The Chorus is based at the Old Cutler Presbyterian Church, 14401 Old Cutler Rd. in Palmetto Bay. For more information visit www.thechildrensvoice.org.
