Members of the Palmetto Bay Village Council celebrated Veterans Day on Nov. 11 by serving meals to the members of the Marlin Moore American Legion Post 133.

Instead of just attending the usual flagraising ceremony, Mayor Eugene Flinn, Vice Mayor John DuBois and council members Karyn Cunningham and Tim Schaffer, as well as the new village policing unit commander Lt. Gadyaces Serralta, delivered hot food and manned a cafeteria style serving line reminiscent of a military mess hall for the veterans and their family members.

“An upstanding event,” Mayor Flinn said afterwards. “We brought in dinner and the council served the members of the American Legion Post 133. [Miami-Dade District 8 Commisioner] Daniella Levine Cava also joined us and assisted in the serving. Alexandra [Flinnb’s wife] sang the National Anthem.”
