Allstate Foundation awards $16,000 in grants to South Florida nonprofits

Several local Allstate agency owners recently secured a total of 16 $1,000 grants to support nonprofits in the South Florida area.

These longtime volunteers join thousands of Allstate agency owners around the country who care for their communities by supporting important local causes, such as promoting safe driving habits among teen drivers; raising money for domestic violence programs, and supporting programs that provide youth with team building, conflict resolution and leadership skills so they can step up as leaders in their communities and succeed in life.

The Miami-Dade agents and the organizations they support are:
Erick Fernandez (Coral Gables) – South Florida Sports Foundation Inc., Dolphins Cycling Challenge Inc., Here’s Help Inc. and Fundacion Monica Burguera Inc.
Ignacio Borbolla (Coral Gables) – South Florida Sports Foundation Inc. and Fish & Wildlife Foundation Inc.;
Mary Martinez (Coral Gables) – University of Miami;
Michael Martinez (Coral Gables) – University of Miami;
Jacob Eljaua (Doral) – Friends of the Underline Inc.;
Juan Villanueva (Doral) – University of Miami, and
Domingo Bravo (Miami) – Amigos Together for Kids Inc.

These organizations are among 3,500 organizations this year that will receive The Allstate Foundation Helping Hands in the Community grants secured by agency owners on behalf of organizations for which they volunteer. The grants support nonprofits focused on empowering youth, teen safe driving, disaster preparedness, hunger and other causes. This year, the foundation will grant up to $7.5 million to nonprofits across the country.

“The Allstate Foundation Helping Hands in the Community grants celebrate the spirit of service and commitment to communities where we live, work and do business,” said Mike Sheely, field senior vice president. “With support from The Allstate Foundation, these agency owners and the organizations they support are making our hometown a stronger, safer place.”

The Helping Hands grants are one example of Allstate’s legacy of service. In the past 20 years, Allstate employees, agency owners and their staffs have donated more than $368 million and more than 4 million volunteer hours to charitable causes. Sixty three percent of Allstate employees participated in the company’s Bring Out the Good Month 2016 workplace giving program, which raised more than $7.1 million in contributions. More than 8,800 nonprofit organizations benefited from this fundraising effort.
