TransCon was created in response to the need to have an affordable resource for those in the transgender community. Although other transgender-specific conferences exist, the costs associated with attending make it nearly impossible for many to participate.
In its ninth year, attendees at TransCon once again can expect to participate in various workshops and activities addressing a wide range of topics, including: employment, social justice, dating, health, trans youth issues, non-binary identities, trans equality and more.
This year’s conference will focus on creating more opportunities for attendees to come together and build community including a social event on Saturday night. The conference will introduce a new lunch-time activity called “Roundtables” that will provide attendees with an opportunity to make more social connections and delve deeper into topics of interest.
“Transcon serves a crucial community building role for South Florida’s trans population,” said TransCon Planning Committee co-chair, Scott Migliori. “The conference brings people together from all across the community at no cost to participants and provides access to critical information and resources that can be hard to find even in today’s information age. The conference is evolving and growing to meet the needs of the community with more opportunities for socializing and connecting throughout this year’s schedule.
“Most importantly, the conference is designed by members of the trans community based on input from the community as a whole,” Migliori added.
TransCon U will take place on Mar. 9. This half day will be filled with classes on various job skills such as resume building, dressing for success while being you, interviewing role playing and more.
TransCon is being hosted at Barry University at Landon Hall, 11300 NE Second Ave. For more information regarding the conference, send email info@aquafoundation.org.
