Karen Peterson Dancers to hold auditions for 2018 dance season

Employment is available for four to seven Karen Peterson Dancers (KPD) Dance Artists, with and without disabilities, for the 2018 dance season, for a 20-week contracted salary between $150 and $350 per week.

The company is seeking professional dancers with and without disabilities, with technical and performance experience and capable of teaching in the Miami-Dade Public Schools system.

KPD will begin a Monday through Friday rehearsal and teaching period on Jan. 8, 2018, until the final performances takes place May 10-12, 2018 at the Excello Dance Space. There will be a company class on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, at 10-11:15 a.m. followed by a 11:30-2 p.m. rehearsal period developing new repertory and revisiting older works.

On Tuesday and Thursday dancers will travel to one of the 13 schools throughout Miami Dade County and develop a one hour class for teens with special needs. The number of classes you teach will reflect your weekly salary.
You may rehearse Monday, Wednesday and Friday if you prefer not to teach.

At the end of the 20-week school residency the company will present a showcase for the teens at one of the Miami Dade Schools on Apr. 27. The theme will be “Under the Umbrella of Joy and Friendship.”

You have to provide your own transportation if you would like to teach, file taxes with a 1099 at the year-end and sign a KPD contract provided by a board attorney. Interested individuals must take the audition on Saturday, Oct. 7, 10 a.m., at the Excello Dance Space, 8700 SW 129 Terr.
