Daniella Levine Cava, an advocate for children, families and communities recently announced her candidacy for Miami-Dade County Commissioner in District 8.

“I’ve been an advocate and serving others in Miami-Dade for over 30 years, helping people to help themselves, growing local economies and strengthening the middle class. I’ve been a champion for fairness and good government,” Levine Cava said. “It’s time we elect someone who will serve the people of this county instead of themselves. I have the vision to create jobs, a record of creating them and I am ready to lead the charge for restored integrity at County Hall.”

A first-time candidate, she has built a 30-year record of growing the local economy, championing equal opportunity, creating jobs, strengthening the middle class, and fighting for children, families, and seniors.

In 1996, Levine Cava founded Catalyst Miami, a local nonprofit that helps low- and middle- income families through education, advocacy and dialogue. Catalyst has helped thousands of South Floridians improve their quality of life. As president and CEO, she has created hundreds of local jobs, helped thousands enter the middle class, and fostered millions of dollars of fiscal impact in the economy, including bringing back more than $11 million to Miami-Dade County through earned income tax credits.

Her prior experience includes serving as manager for Foster Care, Adoptions and Child Welfare Legal Services for the Florida Department of Children and Families in the aftermath of Hurricane Andrew. This experience helped spark her passion for growing strong, resilient communities and forged her commitment to the neighborhoods of District 8.

“It will take a village, indeed the many villages of South Dade represented here today to be successful,” Levine Cava said. “Standing together we can and will win much more — the return of vision, results and integrity to our county government.”

She received her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Yale University and graduate degrees in law and social work from Columbia University. She and her husband, Dr. Robert Cava, have two children, Eliza and Edward.
