Gulliver Preparatory School has announced its nominees for this year’s Miami Herald Silver Knight Awards. All the nominees are high school seniors at Gulliver with a minimum 3.2 GPA.
They are: Art, Nicole Rubin; Athletics, Patricio Hernandez-Ysasi; General Scholarship, Sharon Peng; Music and Dance, Elizabeth Evans; Science, Daniela Rodriguez-Firmani, and Social Science, Michael Lefkowitz.
“Gulliver supports the academic experience by encouraging extracurricular excellence in our next generation of bright, young minds,” said John Krutulis, Gulliver’s director and head of schools. “These students exemplify the optimum of accomplishment in their areas and we wish our nominees all the best in what is sure to be a very positive future.”
The Silver Knight Awards program recognizes outstanding students who not only have maintained good grades, but also have applied unselfishly their special knowledge and talents to contribute significant service to their schools and communities. Each school in Miami-Dade and Broward counties may nominate one student per category.
One Silver Knight and three Honorable Mentions will be selected in each category by a panel of independent judges at Jungle Island on Apr. 8. Names of the winners will be announced at the Silver Knight Awards ceremony on May 20 at the James L. Knight Center in Miami. Silver Knights receive $2,000, a Silver Knight statue and a medallion. The three Honorable Mentions each receive $500 and an engraved plaque.
