Village of Palmetto Bay Vice Mayor, John Dubois, announced his candidacy for Miami-Dade County Commissioner for District 8, following current Commissioner Daniella Levine Cava’s decision to run for Miami-Dade Mayor last week.
“Our County government has failed its residents in many ways, particularly in Southern Miami-Dade where, despite the region’s continued growth, promises made to alleviate our congested roads and highways by adopting mass transit solutions such as the expansion of Metrorail or the implementation of Light Rail have simply not been met,” – declared Mr. Dubois.
“It is my intention to bring my years of experience in the private and public sectors to address not only this critically important issue, but tackle the many pressing problems affecting our community ” – added Mr. Dubois
Vice Mayor Dubois’ commitment and priority are the residents of District 8. Therefore, in this spirit, Mr. Dubois has decided to invest in the community he cares about by self-funding his campaign for the County Commission with an initial deposit of one million dollars.
Vice Mayor John DuBois is a highly respected businessman, civic leader, and philanthropist who has spent his career in the Telecommunications industry. In 2008, he founded Eyecast, a cloud-based Video Surveillance company where he is currently President and CEO. Mr. DuBois attended American University in Washington, D.C., where he earned a B.S. in Economics and Business Administration and a Master of Science Degree in Technology of Management.
Vice Mayor DuBois has served on the board of directors and advisory boards of many companies, charities, and institutions including several years on the Board of the Deering Estate Foundation in Palmetto Bay. Before being elected as Vice Mayor of Palmetto Bay, Mr. DuBois was appointed to the Palmetto Bay Tree Advisory Committee because of his credentials as an ISA certified arborist and led the Village to be granted Tree City USA status. In addition, Vice Mayor Dubois serves on the Board of Directors of Camillus House, the largest service provider for the homeless in Miami-Dade, and he currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Camillus Health Concern.
Mr. DuBois has made Palmetto Bay his home for almost 20 years. He has served the residents of Palmetto Bay as Vice Mayor for the past 7 years since his election to the post in 2012. He was re-elected in 2016.
I was late for the first meeting (on May 7, 2009) which is why I was elected Secretary (that’s how it works). And sat next to John DuBois. I knew what was going on, the whole process, as I was a part of it. As was DuBois. Where were YOU, “Sparky”? Not to rain on your fantastic investigative journalism skills, honing in on the Community Newspapers “led the Village to be granted Tree City USA status”, but I quote from the Arbor day Societies rules: “To qualify as a Tree City USA community, you must meet four standards established by the Arbor Day Foundation”:”Standard 1. A Tree Board or Department. Standard 2. A Tree Care Ordinance. Standard 3. A Community Forestry Program With an Annual Budget of at Least $2 Per Capita. Standard 4. An Arbor Day Observance and Proclamation.” While numbers 1,3, and 4 were done with a Council Vote, Standard 2 took time (11 months to an approximation, and we’re really still working on it) and the action of the Tree Advisory Board. And Mr. DuBois. Most of the questions were asked by Mr. Dubois or Mr. Clifford (I’ve got the minutes). And, contrary to your ‘outing’ of 2008, the Board was created by Ordinance on 1/12/2009, and filled by resolution 09-17, on 2/9/09. All that happened in 2008 was to set an Arbor Day (on 1/7, resolution 08-06). What you read from The Arbor Day Society is wrong, or over-generalized. As are you. And why is it that you feel you have to hide your identity, ‘Sparky’? Can’t look Palmetto Bay in the eye while you trash others? Have YOU done anything for the Village?, or do you just like to whine? Feel you have to blindside someone running for office? Do you know how courageous it is to run (but not to hide)? Perhaps you should hang up your social media ‘cred’ and pick up a shovel. Yup, check and confirmed. The Arbor Day Foundation last updated its records in June 2018, set to update again this June. Palmetto Bay is listed as a 10 year member. This confirms that Palmetto Bay was recognized in 2008, 4 years prior to Mr. DuBois’ first election victory. A review of the Village website reveals that the Tree Board was created in 2009, which is after Palmetto Bay was recognized as a Tree City Community. When did you take your seat on the Tree Board Mr. Clifford?
He did. I was there. We were the first appointees to the tree board, part of the required process leading to “tree city USA”.I’m still in the board, and he has not wavered in his support of trees and making VPB a better place to live. Wow. That Vice Mayor was fast in working to have Palmetto Bay recognized as a “Tree City USA”. Let’s see, he was first elected in 2012. Palmetto Bay has been recognized as a Tree City USA community since 2008 and received its first Growth Award in 2011 from the Arbor Day Foundation for its dedication to environmentally friendly practices. Vice Mayor DuBois is obviously able to reverse the space time continuum to obtain results. Impressive. I would expect no less from him as County Commissioner, again reversing the space time continuum to reverse the years of County misspending of our one half cent transportation sales tax monies. Elect Vice Mayor DuBois as our District 8 Commissioner and he will have Metrorail running to Florida City by 2017, a full three years prior to his taking office as County Commissioner. Well done.
