Palmer Trinity School has announced that its Falcon drone team placed fourth in the nation at the Drones in School National Championship in Detroit, MI.
The Drones in School program is an educational initiative focused on applying engineering design principles and project-based learning across multiple disciplines. Students take on six defined roles: project manager, graphic designer, manufacturing engineer, design engineer, marketing coordinator and drone technician. The team designed, built and raced a first-person-view drone.
“This achievement reflects our team’s incredible hard work, technical skill and collaborative spirit,” said Patrick Roberts, head of school. “Our drone team represented Palmer Trinity in an exceptional manner and we are proud of their accomplishment.”
The team, comprised of Matias Lara, Justina Rodriguez, Samuel Aguirre, Madison Keller, Isaac Kromo and Yihang Zheng, demonstrated well-rounded excellence across multiple judging criteria, earning third place in the portfolio and display category, fourth place in the head-to-head racing category and fifth place in the marketing video category.
In addition, the Falcons placed second overall at the Florida State Championship and earned the Excellence Award, a top honor recognizing superior aircraft design. Judges cited the team’s durable, elegant drone, highlighting its exceptional fabrication, precise assembly and attention to detail.
