MIAMI – SCORE Miami-Dade now offers workshops in Palmetto Bay, expanding its reach of low-cost business seminars to meet the demand for resources available to local entrepreneurs.
SCORE Miami-Dade, an all-volunteer nonprofit, has teamed up with the Economic Development Council of South Dade to bring its workshops to business owners in the southern part of the county.
SCORE Miami-Dade also has expanded its workshop schedule, adding QuickStart, a seminar series for people who aspire to go into business; and workshops on setting up technology systems,; cleaning up your credit; branding; finding financing; and hiring smart.
“We added more workshops, locations and topics because our clients – local businesses – have asked for them,” said Marjorie Weber, chair of SCORE Miami-Dade.
The workshops are taught by SCORE Miami volunteers, successful business owners and leaders who share their expertise to help other businesses thrive.
The number of SCORE Miami counselors has doubled in the last year, with 67 counselors now offering one-on-one mentoring and workshops to business owners.
The influx of more than 30 new counselors is changing the perception of the organization as a place for retired professionals to one of resourceful executives. More than half of the SCORE Miami counselors are working business owers and professionals, Weber said.
“We are selective in bringing in counselors that have skills needed to succeed in the current business environment,” she said.
