South Florida Boomers await first ‘Pop-Up’ Disco on Aug. 2

South Florida’s first “Pop-Up” Disco gets its inaugural “date” on Saturday, Aug. 2, from 8 p.m. to midnight, at the Coconut Grove Sailing Club.

Deejays will spin hits of the 1970s, ’80s and beyond, filling a need for Baby Boomers who love to dance, and are always on the lookout for a fun venue to do so.

Two dance-loving Miamians, Elaine Pasekoff and Ann Jurmain, commiserated with friends who, like themselves, had to wait for the sporadic wedding, quince, bar mitzvah or charity event to get on the dance floor. So the idea was born.

“Miami is such a vibrant music/party town. There are plenty of venues for 20- and 30-year-olds to dance, but Boomers are clearly underserved,” Pasekoff said.

“Our plan is to hold the Pop-Up Disco the first Saturday of each month,” Jurmain added.

“It will be a casual, fun, affordable evening to dance to favorites from our partying days. As the event grows, we will ‘Pop Up’ in different venues across South Florida.”

The Coconut Grove Sailing Club is located at 2990 S. Bayshore Dr. Parking is available at the Municipal Parking Garage next to the Sonesta Hotel on McFarlane Road. Tickets to the event are $15, and include one well drink. Tickets (cash only) will be available at the door on event night.

Each month, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to a local charity. The Aug. 2 event benefits the ALS Association of South Florida.
