A great time was had by all! Once again, Palmetto Bay showed off its sense of community and came together at our annual Palmetto Bay ‘Thanksgiving’; our annual celebration picnic. I just want to take this time to thank all those who worked so hard to make this event special. Special attendees included Miami Hurricane Football Coach Mark Richt who volunteered alongside so many of our village staffers and residents. Miami Palmetto Baseball is also to be congratulated for besting their rival Coral Reef Senior 3-1 to bring home the 2017 Mayor’s Cup. Most of all, it was the attendees who shared the community spirit that made this event great.
Our parks allow us to promote so many special events. I want to thank the first Special Events committee, for which our first Vice Mayor, Linda Robinson, worked with 10 village residents on so many events that remain today including our annual Village Picnic. Kudos to our Parks Director Fanny Carmona and Special Events Coordinator Saylin Paez for the continued success of our Parks.
Thank you to our area students who performed, to the parents who work so hard to allow them to develop their talents and to their teachers who do so much for our Village Children – and taking the time to be there on their Saturday. The performers this year were from: Howard Drive Elementary (Dance and Chorus), Miami Palmetto Senior High School Jazz Band, Miami Youth for Chamber Music, Dr. Henry E. Perrine Elementary School (Orchestra), Cutler Bay Community Theatre, and Southwood Middle School (Orchestra & Cheerleaders)
We also enjoyed Cutler Stew!
I’d like to recognize and thank our sponsors for all of their help and support. Without you, this event would not be possible: South Motors, Old Cutler Presbyterian Church, Doral Lincoln, Corradino Group, Kimley Horn, Duarte Orthodontics, Progressive Management, Inc., Benefit Car Shows, PBA- Police Benevolent Association, Christ Fellowship Miami, Amores A D Dental, Ocaquatics Swim School, Sports Clips, Benito Realty Group, Minuteman Press of Miami, Kendall Electric Inc., Country Wide Property Inc., Justin Jimenez Garcia, and American Cancer Society.
And of course I also want to congratulate our “Get Fit Palmetto Bay” Mayor’s Challenge Winners. John DeFreitas and Kathleen Linton.
Events will be going one throughout the year including updates on village history. Thank you to everyone who works so hard to keep our community a great place to live, work, play and learn – it takes a Village!
