Tropical Audubon Society 5 Percent Day, conducted on June 9 at both Whole Foods Market Coral Gables and Pinecrest store locations, netted $11,407.88 for the birds.

The wonderful windfall will amplify the nonprofit organization’s conservation “voice,” enhance its education outreach efforts and literally help feather the Doc Thomas House “nest,” a Florida Heritage Site listed in the National Register of Historic Places that serves as the society’s South Florida headquarters.

What is 5 Percent Day? Whole Foods Markets nationwide donate 5 percent of a chosen day’s net sales to a specified non-profit organization quarterly. Each WFM store chooses four organizations per year to participate in the charitable-giving program.
