2017 Nissan Armada

The 2017 Nissan Armada replaces the outgoing Titan pickup-based 2015.

There is nothing quite like the Armada in Nissan’s current lineup. It’s a compact alternative with the luxury features of some of the best models Nissan has to offer. All trim of the Nissan Armada levels feature standard LED headlights and taillights.

Driving through South Florida, the Armada was a pleasure. It’s clean-lined attractive design fit in well with our posh landscape. Fire up the Armada’s standard 5.6-liter V-8, and you will experience 390 horsepower and 394 pounds-feet of torque. The 5.6-liter engine is strong and highly responsive, yet remains relatively quiet throughout your ride. EPA estimates predict the Armada to get 14 mpg city and 19 mpg highway for the two-wheel-drive model and 13 mpg city and 15 mpg on the highway with four-wheel drive.

Its ride quality is impeccable; the Armada soaks up bumps silently with ease, successfully blocking out noise and keeping its smooth composure. Its serene quietness is, in part, thanks to its acoustic windshield and glass that muffles outside noise.

Another area where the Armada shines is in its impressive array of technology and safety features. Such features in the 2017 Nissan Armada for the Premium trim like the one we test drove include: blind spot warning and intervention, backup collision intervention, Nissan Anti-Theft System, distance control assist, predictive forward collision and lane departure warning, intelligent key with memory, remote engine start, moonroof, leather appointed seats, heated and cooled front seats, a 13- speaker Bose premium audio system, and a family entertainment system.

Interior materials are excellent; hard plastics or subpar materials are, thankfully, nowhere to be found. The center console is set a little lower than you would expect but it is still comfortable and easy to navigate. Another great feature of the Armada is its cargo room. While not the largest amount of room for its class, it still gets the job done when hauling two week’s worth of groceries or luggage. When the third row is folded, you get 49.9 cubic feet of room once the second row is folded is 95.4 cubic feet. Not bad, for a compact. Despite it’s condensed size, the Armada also provides enough room for second row passengers. Those in the third row may have to squeeze together with their knees tucked under their chins. It is not, by any stretch, the preferred seating area for adults. Kids however, would fare well in the third row or best keep it down for more cargo space.

The new Nissan Armada is an interesting replacement for the Titan. While they have different strong suits, the Armada is a far better ride offering a more luxurious experience. Its plethora of safety and technology features, high quality materials and impressive ride quality make it a great bang for your buck. While you might find some shortcomings in the third row, it’s easily admissible when you consider what the Armada has to offer in exchange — an all-new compact ride that is as smooth as it is stylish.

The MSRP for the 2017 Nissan Armada starts at $44,400.
