The Village of Pinecrest celebrated its designation as the First U.S. City of Happiness with the World Happiness Fest at Pinecrest Gardens on March 20 and 21. Thought leaders, wellness advocates, and community change makers from around the world gathered to provide attendees with a transformative experience through their inspirational talks, interactive workshops, and dynamic community events.

This event was part of the Happy Pinecrest People Initiative (HaPPI), a collaborative effort between the Village of Pinecrest and the World Happiness Foundation. This initiative promotes and prioritizes well-being for improved health outcomes, economic growth, and stronger community bonds. As a result, the Village added a new Strategic Priority to its 2025-26 Strategic Plan named Social Connectivity and Public Wellbeing.

“The World Happiness Fest was a transformative moment for Pinecrest,” said Mayor Joseph Corradino, who formally received the City of Happiness designation during a special ceremony at the event. “It is an honor to be designated as the first U.S. City of Happiness, and to have established a commitment to prioritizing the well-being of every resident.”

Some highlighted events included a Museum of Graffiti Drawing Class with Ryan the Wheelbarrow, a solo musical performance by Nilo de Monte and Oma Satsand, and an EDM concert with DJ E Feezy.

Featured speakers included Dr. Mavis Tsai, a social connection expert, and Dr. Edith Shiro, an expert in post-traumatic growth. Pinecrest resident Christiana Pinciroli, who blazed trails first as a captain of the Brazilian water polo team and later as an executive at a leading Brazilian bank, led sessions on how high-performance and happiness are not mutually exclusive.

World Happiness Foundation Founder Luis Gallardo said, “Pinecrest is pioneering an innovative governance model that other cities across America can learn from—especially timely as the U.S. faces declining happiness metrics nationwide.”

A highlight was the community lunch, which was designed family-style to foster genuine connection. The sold-out lunch for 150 attendees featured live music and a closing gratitude ritual led by international wellness advocates Mavis and Vibha from India.

The celebration continues with Family Garden Day at Pinecrest Gardens on April 5. This event offers hands-on gardening and activities for all ages. Tickets can be purchased at https://www.pinecrestgardens.org/Arts-Events/Events-Calendar/4.5.25-Family-Garden-Day.

Pinecrest residents can also nominate people and businesses for the HaPPI Spotlight, honoring those who positively impact the community. Nominations can be submitted at pinecrest-fl.gov/happi.
