For the first time ever, Pinecrest Gardens welcomes the Magic City Opera Company to the Banyan Bowl Stage with a very special “children’s opera” presentation of Hansel and Gretel by the Brothers Grimm. A new Miami tradition is born! Based on the beloved children’s story, The Opera has been delighting family audiences around the world since its premiere in 1893! Join Magic City Opera on this magical journey into this timeless fairy tale. For adults, Halloween Festivities kick off with everyone’s favorite Cult Movie Classic, “Rocky Horror Picture Show.”

In this cult classic, sweethearts Brad (Barry Bostwick) and Janet (Susan Sarandon), stuck with a flat tire during a storm, discover the eerie mansion of Dr. Frank-N-Furter (Tim Curry), a transvestite scientist. As their innocence is lost, Brad and Janet meet a houseful of wild characters, including a rocking biker (Meat Loaf) and a creepy butler (Richard O’Brien). Through elaborate dances and rock songs, Frank-N-Furter unveils his latest creation: a muscular man named “Rocky.”
Remember, there is the obligatory costume contest and an invitation to bring your own props. Refreshments will be available for purchase.

This special music event is presented by Miami Dade College Kendall Campus music ensembles, under the direction of Brian Neal, Alberto Bade and Kenneth Boos. What better way to spend a free night in a dark and spooky garden with music we deem apropos for the occasion.

Pinecrest Gardens will be haunted by four-legged ghouls and their scary human companions when Paws-4-You Rescue celebrates their annual Howl-O-Ween event. The fabulous afternoon features tricks and treats, a costume contest, a Doggie Fun Zone Agility course, food, drinks, live entertainment, a spooky Kids’ Zone and pumpkin patch. There is a special “alumni” doggy parade that culminates in the Banyan Bowl where a costume contest with prices will take place. To enter your puppy into this costume competition there will be an addition $10 fee with 100 percent of the proceeds going to Paws-4-You Rescue.
There’s off-premise parking at Christ the King Church, Palmetto Senior High and Pinecrest Elementary, with free shuttle service to and from Pinecrest Gardens. Looking forward to seeing everyone there this coming year.

Over the past four decades, the voice of Janis Siegel, a ten-time Grammy winner and a seventeen-time Grammy nominee, has been an undeniable force in The Manhattan Transfer’s diverse musical catalog. Alongside her career as a founding member of this musical institution, Siegel has also sustained a solo career that has spawned nearly a dozen finely-crafted solo albums and numerous collaborative projects, amassed a large international fan base and garnered consistently high critical praise. Joining Janis on stage is the South Florida Jazz Orchestra in a program of Ella’s iconic songs and also featuring Gordon Goodwin’s Grammy Award winning arrangement of Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue.

Xavier Cortada: October 16, 10:30 a.m. “Florida is Nature” Artist Talk and Interactive Experience.
Xavier Cortada will be presenting monthly Florida is Nature Artist Talks and Interactive experiences at The FIN. The artist talks and interactive experiences are free with paid admission to the garden on the select dates below. After the talk, visitors are invited to walk the garden and engage in the Florida is Nature participatory art project.
Conservation Workshop:
An Introduction to IPM (integrated pest management)
Thursday, October 19, 10-11:00 a.m.
Join us as we learn about this environmentally friendly approach to pest management. IPM is a practice used by landscaping professionals that implements a safe and natural take on pests in the garden. In this beginner’s course, we will start to uncover how and why IPM is a conservation topic, and how to use it in your own garden. Fee is $10 per person and reservations can be made at 305-669-6990. Workshops are limited to 12 people.
