And the beat goes on with summer events

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Summer affords us the ability to enjoy time with our families and friends with entertaining programs and events including camps for kids and ongoing fundraisers for charity. While school is out and many are away on vacation, traffic is a little better for those who have to drive to work.

After taking a tumble resulting in new hip and pelvic repair, I started working remotely. Meantime, I have so many to thank, like Fara Sax who has graciously filled in for me several times on my Gloria’s Gab LIVE shows.

Speaking of that show, Fara recently interviewed the founder/CEO of Bleeding Blue Foundation, Danny Morales, and the non-profit’s treasurer, Melanie Ginoris, to promote the June 25 Coral Gables Woman’s Club Gringo Bingo fundraiser with proceeds being shared with Bleeding Blue and its mission of supporting police officers harmed or killed in line of duty.

Both Melanie and Danny were among the many enjoying the June 25 bingo event emceed by the entertaining Steven Bradley with music by DJ Germain. Shout out to Bay 13 Brewery & Kitchen for hosting the events and to Kings’ Bowl for providing some great prizes and to Dr. Hal Wanless, Lynn Bauer, Jerry Kavulich, Myra and Carlos Rossi.

Among those enjoying the fun and games that night were Debbie and Kevin Courtney, Alma Suarez, Cole Ferreira, Bianchi Gonzalez, Gaby Alfaro, Julia Irvin, Cathie Burns, Rita and Saesha Tennyson, to mention a few.

Kudos to Kings Bowl in Doral for providing amazing prizes for this event every month. By the way, they have added table tennis to the many games you can play there from bowling to karaoke. Good times!

In other news, clubwomen from South Florida’s GFWC FL District 11 were well represented in Chicago attending the International Convention, May 27-July 1. Several members of the Coral Gables Woman’s Club were in attendance to accompany their club sister Leads Candidate Elizabeth Hicks, who was chosen to represent GFWC Florida in Chicago.

Among the many District 11 club members attending were District 11’s director Ruth Martinez, Elizabeth Fisher, Arely Ruiz, Linda Hartwell, Linda Joseph, Metris Batts, Shirley Pardon, Noreen Timoney, Rose Martins, and Clora Adkins.

June 14 was Flag Day and a rainy day forced a potluck dinner with friends to be celebrated a day later. You see Susan and John Medina have a beautiful flag and wanted to share a patriotic day with friends who came up with themed dishes, including Lynn Bauer whose strawberry shortcake was in the image of a flag. Thanks for sharing the cake and many dinners during my recovery.

As for future summer fun, Coral Gables Woman’s Club already is planning a six-day cruise on a new ship as a fundraiser next June. This cruise will benefit the club’s free children’s dental clinic and will be open to members, friends and supporters. Look for more on that in coming issues.

Until next time, share your time and talents, count your blessings, and make a difference.
