The Village of Palmetto Bay is rolling back the clock to the days of drive-in movies and turning the future Downtown Development area into the most amazing family-friendly drive-in theater.
On January 30 at 6 p.m., cars will be parking at Palmetto Bay Town Center (9705 East Hibiscus St.) and awaiting the 7 p.m. start of Grease (the sing-along version, with captions during the songs). Golf carts, bicycles and walk-ups are also welcome.
The movie will be shown on a portable 2-story movie screen with stereo sound that is transmitted through your FM radio. This is going to be a movie night under the stars you won’t want to miss!

12TH ANNUAL CCDH POKER TOURNAMENT
In 2004 Palmetto Middle School student Michael Grey started a poker tournament to raise money for wheelchair repairs. In 2010, the Morrison brothers (Brian, 17 and Jay, 15) took over. This year, the Lehman brothers (Max, 16 and Jesse, 13) are joining them to run the 12th CCDH poker tournament, which has grown to more than 100 participants annually.
On February 7th, come join this worthy local charity event. Congregation Bet Shira (SW 120th Street and 77th Avenue) hosts the 3-hour Texas Hold ‘Em Tournament beginning at 12:30 p.m. Entry costs $20 (though many contribute more) to try your luck, but more importantly to support the boys in their quest to help wheelchair bound individuals. All student players and volunteers receive credit for 4 hours of community service.
During the event, there will be free food and drink, raffles and lots of good conversation. Players ages 10 and up are welcome to test their luck to win an HDTV. Volunteers of all ages make sure this is an event everyone can enjoy.
Through the years, Martin Berger has provided the poker chips, Congregation Bet Shira donates their venue and the Morrison (and now) Lehman families volunteer food, drink, time and effort to making this a special day.
Since 1975, CCDH has been Miami-Dade County’s leading agency to plan, provide, coordinate, and arrange services for individuals with disabilities and their families. UMSHOF CELEBRITY BOWLING TOURNAMENT
The University of Miami Sports Hall of Fame will hold its fifth annual Celebrity Bowling Tournament, hosted by Reggie Wayne, on Monday, February 29, from 6-9 p.m., at Splitsville in the Shops at Sunset Place in South Miami. Canes fans can bowl with some of their favorite former Canes all-stars in a relaxing evening of family fun, food and Hurricanes camaraderie.
This year, Hurricane football great, UMSHoF member Reggie Wayne will serve as host of the event. Other Hurricane greats who have attended past bowling tournaments include Clinton Portis, Santana Moss, Bubba Franks, Brett Romberg, KC Jones, Randal Hill, Eric Brown, Tracy Kerdyk, Darrin Smith and Heisman Trophy winner Gino Torretta.
Teams start at $400 for four bowlers, regular sponsor lanes are $1000 and premium sponsor lanes are $1500. Individual bowlers are $125 each, social tickets can be purchased for $50 for adults and $25 for children under 12.
