While on a summer hiatus for club meeting, the women of GFWC Coral Gables Woman’s Club are as busy as ever. Despite potential thunderstorms and people taking summer vacations, members of the Coral Gables Woman’s Club (CGWC) continue to raise funds for their free children’s dental clinic and other charities.
While plans are made for an upcoming Bunco Night and Gringo Bingo, a recent Belly Dancing Class on July 21 was led by Lamis, a Middle Eastern dancer and instructor. The class attracted many members as well as many new faces. Lamis, who taught the class as a favor to club member Theresa Gilmore, taught the ladies some great moves, helped everyone burn some calories and provided some good laughs while raising several hundred dollars for the club’s free children’s dental clinic. If anyone is interested in holding a class, you can reach Lamis at lamis143@hotmail.com.
Prior to the belly dancing class and despite the threat of a potential hurricane, the July 6 CGWC Gringo Bingo at Clutch Burger was a sell out and raised more than $2,000, the second most ever for this events thanks sponsors 1st Empire Elite Financial and EZ Title Services as well as good friend Lynn Bauer and Hal Wanless. The club will share the July proceeds 50/50 supporting their participation in Smartride and the rest directed to other club efforts such as their children’s free dental clinic.
This July Gringo Bingo was a night of celebration for many especially Susan Medina who was surprised with a birthday cake that her husband and everyone in attendance enjoyed after eating some great burgers and playing several bingo games. As always, the crowd was entertained by Clutch owner Steven Bradley and celebrity DJ Germain who donates his services for this event every month. Adding to the fun, Mike Couture, who runs an ecotours company out of Islamorada, donated once again a tour package that brought in a nice donation.
Carmen Suarez, who chairs the CGWC’s Smartride Committee, shared with the bingo guests a little about this 165 mile ride over two days from Miami to Key West that has raised $12.5 million for several HIV/ Aids Clinics around the state. The Club has participated for the last 16 years manning water stations dressed in themed costumes every year and this year on November 19-20, ten members will volunteer once again. Next up, 1st Empire Elite Financial and EZ Title Services will once again sponsor the August 3 Gringo Bingo with another sold out event.
As things open up, Profit Inc., one of Miami oldest business networking groups, met for a power lunch with smaller groups recently at Cheese Cake Factory on Miracle Mile. Aside of power lunches, this dynamic group meets every first Thursday at 94th Aero Squadron, a convenient location for those coming from every corner of South Florida.
