Bet Shira Congregation, South Dade’s only Conservative Jewish synagogue, will celebrate the installation of its spiritual leader, Rabbi Jesse Charyn, with a ceremony, cocktail reception and dinner on Saturday evening, January 28, beginning at 6:45 p.m. The synagogue is located at 7500 Southwest 120th Street.
The Installation Ceremony will feature the participation of clergy from neighboring synagogues and churches, elected officials, Jewish community leaders and others.
The Installation Ceremony will be followed by cocktails, an Israeli-themed kosher dinner and entertainment. Cocktail attire is suggested. Tickets for the event are $118.00 per person.
Rabbi Charyn became spiritual leader at Bet Shira in July 2022. The Installation Ceremony marks the congregation’s reaffirmation of the Rabbi’s religious authority, and their shared commitment to pursue the values of Conservative Judaism and the ideal of Tikkun Olam (making the world a better place).
Rabbi Charyn is a speaker, teacher, chaplain, outdoor enthusiast and dedicated Jewish leader with diverse religious experience. Born and raised in Chattanooga, Tenn., he attended Young Judea’s Year Course in Israel before making aliyah (immigration) to Israel and serving in the Israel Defense Force’s Golani Special Forces from 2003-2006.
His strong relationship with Israel also included staffing several Birthright Israel trips and serving as a Birthright Fellow.
A graduate of Arizona State University, Rabbi Charyn pursued post-graduate studies at the Ziegler School for Rabbinic Studies, the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College, the Conservative Yeshiva and Arizona State University. Before leading Bet Shira, he served as Rabbi/Director of Spiritual Care at Miami Jewish Health Systems.
Rabbi Charyn views his family as his greatest achievement, sharing his life with his wife Shira and three daughters, Rayna, Navah and Zivah.
