Cadillac is as classic and American as barbecue on the Fourth of July. With the 2021 CT4, the Cadillac reaffirms its brand as the high water mark for the luxury and power that the American car industry represents.
With the CT4, Cadillac makes the dream of owning a stylish powerhouse that is firmly anchored in the 21st Century affordable. Starting at more than $33,000, the Cadillac CT4 is a sedan with an entry-level “luxury” model that includes a 2.0-liter, twin-scroll turbocharged engine on an eight-speed transmission.
For a bit more money — about $38,000 — you can get “premium luxury” with a 2.7-liter dual-volute turbocharged engine that provides 310 horsepower and 350 pounds-feet of torque on a 10-speed transmission. Pick the V-series for even more power, also with a 2.7-liter dual-volute turbocharged engine, but this one generates 325 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque, which is a nice option.
The Cadillac CT4 gets about 23 miles per gallon in the city, 34 miles per gallon on the highway and 27 mpg combined, with the standard real wheel drive, and 23 mpg in the city and 32 on the highway for the available all wheel drive. Both options produce lots of savings, making it an eco-friendly option.
CT4 models come standard with an eight-speed automatic transmission and active fuel technology that accelerates the Cadillac to 60 miles per hour in 4.8 seconds. It’s a speedy beast with the available 10-speed option.
The ride is super smooth, juiced by an amazing piece of technology that makes me think they got the computer right. The CT4-Vs performance suspension includes magnetic ride control, which reads the road up to an astounding 1,000 times per second and seamlessly adjusts damping for an exceptional ride, handling and control. So every potential bump or broken road is addressed, making the experience anywhere in the CT4 consistent and smooth. It feels like life is a roadway that you want to ride all day and night long, to paraphrase the classic song.
Speaking of songs, the basic setup in the Cadillac is anchored on an eight-inch touchscreen that includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Amazon Alexa. The packages also include a few Bose audio systems that provide a wide range of sound for every taste, including those who love loud tunes and others who want to hear every detail of a recording including the rap-tap-tap of the musician’s hand on the body of a guitar. As for charging, you can choose from both type-a and type-c, so keeping your phone powered is easy and convenient.
The badging on the CT4 is phenomenal both inside and out, which immediately gets in your brain and lights it up. Cadillac is a brand that uniquely gets under your skin in that way. The steering wheel has a large badge on its face, which keeps your senses connected to its high standard of quality and performance. Inside you also get a choice of nine color and trim environments.
As for the outside, the great badging continues, with large chrome designs that speak to the power of Cadillac. I really like the proportions on this car, with a wide stance and low, long silhouette that makes the CT4 a handsome vehicle.
The wheel options also are a treat because you get a selection of eight distinct designs that include dark, light and bright finish choices. For me, it is the 19-inch alloy wheels with a polished, “dark android” finish.
Cadillac brings its A-Game with the 2021 CT4, which means great things for owners who seek out excellence in the cars they drive.
