Carlota Padron, a Pinecrest resident and skilled equestrian rider/jumper, is a participant in this year’s Lindsay Maxwell Charitable Fund/USHJA Emerging Athletes Program. She was chosen amongst many riders in the region and as one of the youngest at only age 12. Over five days, Carlota and her peers participated in mounted flatwork, gymnastic exercises and coursework with top clinician Julie Winkel. She also took part in intensive stable management sessions with nationally recognized experts Amy Center and Colleen Reed. The Lindsay Maxwell Charitable Fund/USHJA Emerging Athletes Program was created to provide opportunities for young riders to advance their horsemanship education and riding skills.
Since the EAP’s inception in 2009, athletes have gone on to earn numerous championships and titles in the Hunter, Jumper and Equitation show rings, including the Platinum Performance/USEF Show Jumping Talent Search Finals, the ASPCA Maclay Finals, USEF Prix des States, and the IHSA Nationals, to name just a few. Athlete Carlota Padrón has been riding since the very young age of three and hopes to one day compete at the highest level. She currently shows at the highest stage of the sport, both at the Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington and World Equestrian Center in Ocala, where she has won numerous times. But by participating in this highly recognized Regional Training Session Carlota was able to step back from competing and focus on connecting with her horse.
She says this opportunity opened up her mind to all the possibilities within the equestrian world allowing her to consider other options down the road and ultimately elongating her career with horses. Our local South Florida champion is bound to never cease being around this beautiful animal that she calls her passion, her life!
