Columbus students dedicate their summer to giving back

A group of Christopher Columbus High School students spent their summer on a service project helping others. They included seniors Raul Martinez III, Alejandro Masferrer; and juniors Lucas Martinez and Tommy Corral. Working with the San Jose Obrero Foundation to provide supplies to be shipped to Choluteca, Honduras, the material was collected at Saint Dominique’s Church by Father Alejandro Lopez.

Raul and Lucas established this benevolent effort in honor their grandfather Alonso de Portillo who died in 2020. The young men look back fondly at their grandfather’s dedication in gathering much-needed supplies for the San Jose Obrero Foundation for as long as they can remember.

San Jose Obrero Foundation is a non-profit that promotes sustainable development for the benefit of the community in Choluteca, Honduras, to promote health, employment training, housing, and contribute to social interest and the environment.
