Dade County Medical Association promotes action in healthcare in Tallahassee

The Dade County Medical Association (DCMA) delegation met with elected officials during the 2022 Legislative Session in Tallahassee, visiting with the purpose of promoting several healthcare initiatives that were prioritized by the DCMA Board of Directors in support of their physician members and their patients.

The delegation included DCMA President, Jose David Suarez, M.D.; DCMA President-Elect, Rafael Fernandez, M.D.; DCMA Vice President, Carmel Barrau, M.D.; DCMA Past-President, Rudy Moise, D.O.; Jeffrey Block, M.D.; Raul Grosz, M.D.; DCMA Executive Director, Fraser Cobbe and Managing Director, Angel Bosch. The delegation conducted 20 meetings with Senators and Representatives in the Miami-Dade Delegation during which they discussed issues that will have an impact on the practice of medicine and patients in the State of Florida.

The DCMA was advocating in support of the following bills:

● Invalid Restrictive Covenants in Health Care (SB 842 Brodeur & HB 1449 Tuck)
● Emergency Medical Treatment for Minors (SB 1114 Bradley & HB 817 Massullo)
● Loan Forgiveness for Physicians Practicing in Areas of Critical Need
● COVID-19 Physician Liability Relief Extension (SB 7014 Judiciary and HB 7021 Health & Human Services), approved by Florida Senate and House of Representative, and is ready to be signed by Governor Ron DeSantis.
● Telehealth Practice Standards (SB 312 Diaz & HB 17 Fabricio)
● Step Therapy (SB 730 Harrell & HB 459 Wilhite)

Also, as part of this visit, the DCMA was proud of the recognition received by Rafael Fernandez, M.D. President-Elect and Antonio Mesa, D.O. Past-President who were sponsored as Doctor of the Day at the Florida Senate and the House of Representatives during the DCMA Delegation visit.
