We’re thrilled to expand our performing arts offerings and bring the beauty, athleticism, and emotional range of professional dance to our community in this extraordinary outdoor setting.
This winter, Pinecrest Gardens expands its performing arts programming with the launch of Dance in the Gardens, a new professional dance series bringing world-class movement to the historic Banyan Bowl. Curated specifically for the Gardens’ intimate, outdoor amphitheater, the series responds directly to audience interest and highlights the power of dance as storytelling—set beneath a geodesic dome and surrounded by lush tropical beauty.
The series opens on Saturday, January 31 at 8 p.m. with the highly anticipated debut of Dimensions Dance Theatre of Miami, one of South Florida’s most acclaimed contemporary ballet companies. Known for its athletic precision and refined neoclassical style, Dimensions presents a vivid program inspired by nature, renewal, and transformation—perfectly suited to the Gardens’ surroundings.
The evening features In Bloom and selections from Four Seasons by Yanis Eric Pikieris, alongside Vow by Ariel Rose, Apollo & Daphne by Ben Needham-Wood, and Arcadia. Together, the works offer an exhilarating blend of elegance and innovation, promising an unforgettable night of movement under the stars.
The celebration continues on Saturday, February 28 at 8 p.m. with the debut of Zest Collective and its powerful program Roots in Jazz: Icons in Motion, presented during Black History Month. Choreographed by founder and artistic director Gentry George, the performance honors the enduring legacy of jazz and the iconic Black artists who shaped American music and culture throughout the 20th century.
Through dance inspired by legendary musicians, the evening weaves together rhythm, history, and identity. Highlights include The Loveliness of You, a tribute to Josephine Baker; the world premiere of What a Difference a Day Makes, honoring Dinah Washington; Straighten Up and Fly Right, celebrating Nat King Cole; and Afro Blue, evoking the transatlantic rhythms associated with Abbey Lincoln and Mongo Santamaría.
“We’re telling a story of resilience through movement,” said Gentry George, founder and artistic director of Zest Collective. “This work celebrates the Black artists who transformed American music and culture, honoring a legacy that continues to resonate from Harlem to Miami.”
Both performances take place in the 530-seat Banyan Bowl, offering audiences an up-close and immersive experience rarely found in traditional theaters. By blending professional dance with Pinecrest Gardens’ natural landscape, Dance in the Gardens positions the venue as a dynamic hub for multidisciplinary arts in South Florida.
