The Upper Gardens at Pinecrest Gardens is open to the public. This exciting renovation and expansion of the space is American with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant, so that everyone can enjoy this special venue in the heart of Pinecrest. It features new restrooms and an accessible playground, as well as an expanded sensory learning garden focusing on all-inclusive activities.
I invite you to walk through the new moon gate from the meadow and be transported to a unique, all-inclusive playground that combines art and nature through whimsical designs featuring a lizard, a frog, a spider, and other garden creatures.
Explore nature trails that lead visitors to a new petting zoo that features three interactive shelters where visitors can learn about and pet the animals. The backyard to those shelters is a large open space where zoo animals can roam freely. An animal barn gives visitors the opportunity to learn and interact with miniature horses, goats, sheep, pigs, chickens, and rabbits.
The Upper Garden Improvement Conceptual Master Plan, commissioned by the Village Council in 2019, provided the vision for future facility enhancements that improve program access and make Pinecrest Gardens a world-class facility. I am proud to say that the Village has delivered this and more. The joy and education opportunities the Upper Gardens will bring to everyone – irrespective of ability – is priceless and is one-of-a-kind in the South Miami-Dade region.
