Family and friends of Sarah Leona Stanczyk are hosting a celebration of life memorial at Pinecrest Gardens (Cypress Hall) on Sunday, Aug. 21, 2022, from 1 to 5 p.m.
Sarah passed away after a long struggle with liver and kidney disease on July 24, 2022, at the age of 39. She went peacefully in Miami, surrounded by the ones who love her endlessly, while holding hands with her mother, former Mayor of Palmetto Bay Shelley Stanczyk, who never left her side during Sarah’s battle.
The family invites everyone who loved Sarah from near and far, who loves her family, and those who have supported the Stanczyks throughout this journey “for this gathering, a hug, to share memories, and partake in refreshments.”
Sarah was a South Florida native who attended Perrine Elementary, Southwood Middle, and Coral Reef High School. She was adventurous and lived a life full of travel and accomplishments. She received her bachelor’s degree with Honors at the University Miami in Business Management & Business Administration, a master’s in science in Geospatial Intelligence, and a GIST Certificate at the University of Southern California, as well as a master’s in science in National Security & Intelligence at Nova Southeastern University. Sarah was incredibly excited and thrilled to achieve her dream job working under the Department of Defense for Axim Geospatial at Joint Andrews Base in Maryland and Washington, supporting the Air Force.
Sarah is survived by her loving parents Shelley and Stanley Stanczyk; her sisters Katie Gonzalez and Kelley Stanczyk; her brother-in-law Frank Gonzalez; nieces Hailey, Madison, and Annabel Gonzalez; her nephew Carson Gonzalez; and extended family in St. Louis and friends throughout the world.
Sarah is the widow of Sgt. David W. Gonzalez of the U.S. Army. She subsequently lost her fiancé Army Sgt 1st Class David E. Metzger of the Special Forces – Green Berets who was killed in action in Afghanistan.
Sarah battled for many years with liver and kidney disease and received the gift of life on August 4, 2015, of a liver transplant that gave her family and friends more time with her. Sarah was always so very thankful for everyone’s love, support, prayers, and encouragement throughout her journey. She fought so hard every day, but her body was tired and needed rest.
Sarah was buried with her husband David W. Gonzalez on Aug. 4, 2022, at the South Florida National Cemetery to forever be with the one she loved dearly.
