The end of January is a cultural cornucopia of fine art paired with some very fine theater.
This happens once a year and there is no doubt about it, it happens to be our favorite weekend of the season. Every January, on the last weekend of the month, we present the most extraordinary weekend of art in the gardens and if it isn’t enough to have a curated event of only 65 artists representing the best of painting, drawing, photography, multi-media, jewelry, sculpture and more…you can come to this event free of charge.
The South Motors Fine Arts Festival will be on Saturday and Sunday, January 25 and 26 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and all you have to do is walk right in, admissions are free.
Come to one of Florida’s premiere juried art shows, our 17th Annual Fine Arts Festival, and enjoy a day surrounded by spectacular visual arts in the most lush and luxurious setting.
Amongst a generous representation of the best artists and artisans from the US and abroad; you will find the perfect piece of art for your home that includes painting, sculpture, mixed media and photography, or peruse a selection of original handcrafted jewelry or wearable art for yourself or significant other. Additionally there is always a great selection of delicious food, live music, fabulous Sidewalk Chalk Artists sponsored by City National Bank, our incredible Trolls and all kinds of activities for the entire family. Join us at the most beautiful art show amongst the winding paths and exotic foliage in this magical botanical garden. There will be off-premise parking at Christ the King Church and Palmetto Senior High, with free shuttle service to and from Pinecrest Gardens.
When you have had your fill of retail therapy, then stop into the Banyan Bowl where The Florida Shakespeare Theater will present Macbeth… another free event during this incredible cultural weekend. Macbeth will run Thursday, January 23 at 8:00 p.m., Friday, January 24 at 8:00 p.m., Saturday, January 25 at 2:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, January 26 at 6:00 p.m.
Shakespeare’s psychological thriller encompasses magic, witches and stunning sights that will delight and trick the eye in this electrifying tale of ambition and madness. Dark deeds are afoot as Macbeth and his Lady risk all for the ultimate prize. Shakespeare’s haunting drama of political intrigue and personal frailty is brought to light in an immersive visual world where “nothing is but what is not.”
If you are in the mood for an aria or two, be with us when Florida Grand Opera presents
Domenico Cimarosa: Il Matrimonio Segreto, Friday, January 31 at 8:00 p.m. and tickets are also FREE. Cimarosa’s opera, Il Matrimonio Segreto, experienced more fame in its time than any of Mozart’s operas did. How did Cimarosa’s star wane, and his operas disappear from the regular canon of performed works? This presentation will present excerpts from his most popular operas in a spirited preview of FGO’s upcoming production, in an effort to familiarize the audience with this effervescent score and outrageous story.
