LAST CHANCE FOR ‘FOUR SEASONS’
The Four Seasons monumental art installation is nearing the end of its stay at Pinecrest Gardens. This extraordinary set of four 15-foot painted fiberglass sculptures by American artist and filmmaker Philip Haas has been on display since November. On April 6, it will leave for its next showing in Kansas City. In a spectacular transformation that is typical of his work, Philip Haas has created a group of large-scale pieces, inspired by Giuseppe Arcimboldo’s Italian renaissance paintings of the four seasons, Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. The colossal size of Haas’ sculptures accentuates the visual puzzle of natural forms – flowers, ivy, moss, fungi, vegetables, fruit, trees, bark, branches, twigs, leaves – as they are recycled to form four human portraits, each representing an individual season. The result is at once earthy, fanciful and exuberant.
