Holiday Safety Tips from the Pinecrest Police Department
Pinecrest Police Officer on duty.

The holidays are here, and Pinecrest families are decorating homes, shopping for gifts, and enjoying local events across the Village. It is a busy and festive time, and our goal is to help you keep your home, your property, and your loved ones safe throughout the season.

One of the simplest ways to prevent crime is to follow the “9 PM Routine.” This nightly habit takes less than a few minutes. At 9 p.m., make sure you haven’t left any valuables or your key fob in your car. Then lock your doors and windows, set your alarm, and turn on your outdoor lights. A quick routine like this strengthens home security and gives you peace of mind.

Package theft also increases during the holidays. Track your deliveries and bring packages inside as soon as possible. If you will not be home, consider using a secure delivery option or ask a trusted neighbor to help. If you notice unusual activity near porches or delivery trucks, call us right away.

Crowded shopping centers call for extra awareness. Keep purchases out of sight, park in well-lit areas, and stay alert when walking to and from your vehicle. If you are attending holiday events with children, choose a meeting spot in advance in case you get separated. Remind kids not to walk off with anyone they do not know and make sure they know how to reach you.

If you are buying or selling gifts online, please consider meeting at a safe exchange location such as a busy public parking lot or at the Pinecrest Police Department rather than meeting at a private home. Daylight hours are best, and bringing another adult is encouraged.

You can also stay connected by downloading the SaferWatch app. It provides real-time alerts and an easy way to report concerns to our team. For non-emergencies, call Pinecrest Police at 305-234-2100. For emergencies, always call 911.

On behalf of the Pinecrest Police Department, thank you for helping us keep our Village safe. We wish you and your families a secure and peaceful holiday season.
