III POINTS MIIIAMI 2022

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

III POINTS will visit Mana Wynwood in Miami once again this autumn on October 21 and 22. What began in 2015 continues with celebrated acts alongside up and coming acts alongside gotta hear bands and never wanna hear again DJ’s. It’s all on stage, along with masses of young people happy to party again. Rain or shine, from 3 in the afternoon till 4 in the morning, after the pat down, you’re good to go. All ages are welcome, and you can drink with a proper ID. A hilarious list of permitted and prohibited materials is on the website. Sealed deodorant and hula hoops are good, but leave your eye drops and pacifiers at home.

Six stages, innovative audiovisuals, and immersive settings compliment the music. Lights, camera, and action have been fused with 21st century lights, murals, and live painting to create a feast for a fast twitch generation which struggles to play any song the whole way through, yet it works. Hearing music live is unlike any other experience, and III POINTS deserves dripping credit for making this something Miami loves. Of course, this is no Woodstock; they can feed you well here too.

A one day ticket will set you back $99, a price some 1950’s think tank realized works better psychologically than $100, but that’s another topic. Another think tank figured out that tacking on taxes & fees made the real cost invisible, but that’s another topic, too. Full price for 2-day general admission is $169 plus taxes & fees. Here’s a trigger warning though: when you click on Buy Tickets, it’s more expensive, and different clicks from different places seem to yield different numbers. If you want to be a VIP, they have packages for you as well. I’m quoting here, as you can take your festival experience to the next level with expedited entry, exclusive amenities, gourmet food and drink options, and more for $449 plus a l’il $70 fee addition. Why do that though, when you can chill with the Rose Quartz package, 5 VIP admissions, VIP bathrooms, and all you can drink for a mere 10K plus $1500? But if all that is a bit too lavish, Spotify has a 381 song, 24 hour 2022 official playlist for free.

LCD Soundsystem might be the primary artist this time around, a twenty year old rock band from Brooklyn led by James Murphy. Porter Robinson, electronic/dance artist, Australian artist Fisher, and English genius James Blake are other Friday headliners. Saturday is a bit harder to analyze with Spanish singer-songwriter Rosalía, Flume, old head South African DJ Black Coffee, and Japanese R&B singer Joji seemingly on the biggest stages at prime time.

The III POINTS website has a freezing cold music map which will send you down a hypnotic Venn diagram rabbit hole which characterizes genres beyond dance, indie, jazz, rock, and hip-hop. Leftfield electronica, selectors, and un perreo deserve recognition in the LOL of the Month Club.

This is no minor event any longer, joining ULTRA, our film festivals, the Dolphins with a healthy Tua, and Miami Art Week as something institutionalized – sort of. Time will tell. This being Miami, there are kickoff parties, pre-parties, post parties, after parties, and closing parties. The hustle never ends.

Last year’s thunderstorms failed to dampen the III POINTS vibe, but given where we live and the season, thoughts and prayers for good weather and safety can’t hurt.
