Larkin Health Systems is proud to announce that Dr. Nicholas D. Torres has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer of Larkin Community Hospital’s South Miami campus.
Dr. Torres rejoins the Larkin family with over 16 years of knowledge and experience in ambulatory, emergency/acute care, medical/surgical, correctional, and behavioral health services. He holds a Master of Science degree in Nursing from Chamberlain University and a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from the University of Miami. He is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner and adjunct faculty at the University of Miami School of Nursing and Health Studies.
During his 10-year tenure at Larkin, Dr. Torres developed and implemented a comprehensive onboarding program for staff and residents in 2009, built and led the system-wide electronic health record implementation from 2010-2011, assisted in the development and opening of the Larkin School of Nursing in 2012, strategically planned and oversaw the operation of the adolescent behavioral health program in 2016, and served as an executive committee member on the Miami-Dade County Healthcare Preparedness Coalition from 2016-2018. His final years at Larkin were spent as the Director of Behavioral Health, Infection Prevention and Control, and Clinical Informatics. For the past four years, Dr. Torres worked with Jackson Health Systems Public Health Trust and Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation, the sixth largest jail in the nation. He provided direct oversight of facility operations and the delivery of patient care services for over 60,000 patients annually at the Turner Guilford Knight correctional facility.
Dr. Torres hopes to build upon Larkin’s previous successes and continue the 2011 mission and vision: To be progressive in our response to the changing health care needs of our community. “This can only be accomplished with a strong, knowledgeable, and competent team” said Dr. Torres, adding that “recruitment and retention will be top priority to ensure that the Larkin Family continues to grow and move forward.”
